NHC HERITAGE MONTH ACTIVITIES

The National Heritage Council of South Africa (NHC) an agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will this Heritage Month commemorate and embrace the rich and diverse heritage through educational programmes; honouring our heritage champions and empowering our communities with their heritage projects.

 

The following are events and programmes the entity will be implementing this Heritage month:

 

  • 11th Annual Golden Shield Heritage Awards – the prestigious award ceremony will be hosted in collaboration with the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town on Monday, 16 September at 17h00 for 18h00. Finalists from all over South Africa will be in attendance at the Artscape Theatre where they will be honoured with a token of appreciation for the selfless work they do in preserving and promoting our country’s heritage.

 

  • Heritage Education School Outreach Programme- (HESOP) The Heritage Education Schools Outreach Programme (HESOP) gives young people from Grade 8 to 11 a chance to play their part, voice their concerns and to become involved in the protection of our common cultural and natural heritage. It seeks to encourage and enable tomorrow’s decision-makers to participate in heritage conservation and to respond to the continuing threats facing our World Heritage. A total of 36 learners from the nine provinces will represent their provinces in groups of four (4) at the Tsitsikamma National Park, Garden Route in the Eastern Cape from 23 – 27 September 2024

 

  • Book Launch of The Golden Girl, a celebration of Queen Katrina Esau and the NIuu Language– on Saturday, 14 September at the Litasa Conference, Neville Alexandra Building, University of Cape Town

 

  • A commemoration of Aunty Sannie Konyana’s contribution during the liberation struggle in Zeerust, Makgola Village on 28 September 2024.

 

  • Launch of a book titled –  An evolutionary review of Black Education King Mzilikazi the Great– an NHC Funded project at the State Theatre in Pretoria on 11 October 2024
