NHC Pays Tribute to MmaKgosi Rosemary Ntshebo Mangope
The National Heritage Council of South Africa joins the North West Provincial Government and South Africa in mourning the passing of MmaKgosi Rosemary Ntshebo Mangope of Bahurutshe Boo-Manyaane (14 April 1959 – 15 March 2025). Mmakgosi is a remarkable leader and public servant, whose legacy is rooted in arts, culture, and youth development.
She previously served Chief Director of the Department of Arts and Culture and CEO of the National Arts Council. She contributed to shaping policies that promoted artistic expression and cultural preservation.
Her most significant contribution was in youth development through the Mmabana Arts Foundation, providing opportunities for young people in rural communities to excel in arts and sports. MmaKgosi Mangope believed in the transformative power of arts to build vibrant communities and foster talent. Her dedication to preserving cultural heritage left an enduring impact on South Africa’s cultural landscape.
The NHC honors her rich legacy and extends condolences to her family and loved ones, the Boo-Manyaane Royal Family, and all those touched by her life and work. Her contributions will continue to inspire the preservation and celebration of South Africa’s rich cultural heritage.
