King Shaka’s Statue embraces the shared heritage

Honourable President Cyril Ramaphosa revealed the towering AmaZulu King Shaka Senzangakhona’s 6.5-meter-tall statue at the King Shaka International Airport to preserve the rich legacy and pride he instilled to the Zulu nation.

King Shaka is warrior king that is known to be a unifier and outstanding leader. His leadership style and military strategies were instrumental in the formation of the Zulu kingdom, with his life and heroic accomplishments inspiring books, documentaries, films and other cultural work in preserving his legacy.

The monument will serve a as a symbol of unity, strength and pride for the people of Kwazulu Natal and the entire nation celebrating Shaka’s contribution to Zulu history, culture and identity.

In a time where it is even critical to protect and preserve our cultural heritage, his legacy teaches us the importance of defending our communities, harnessing intelligence rooted in the strength of our people, ensuring the safety of our future generations.

President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered a keynote address at the unveiling of the monumental and said that the statue represents not just a great person, but a history, a value system and the aspirations of a people. And that this statue is a testament to unity”.

“We will lift high our heroes, name our streets and buildings after them, write books about them, make television shows about them, and erect statues in their honour”.

“We do so because these heroes represent our past and reflect our aspirations for the future” he further said.
