NHC continues to monitor funded projects for accountability
The NHC has the responsibility to disburse funds to worthy heritage projects, monitor and evaluate the funded projects during implementation phase. The monitoring and evaluation of the funded projects is part of the NHC’s efforts to ensure accountability, early identification of project challenges and evaluate implementation of the project.
During November and December 2024, the NHC conducted a number of visits around the country to funded heritage projects through the NHC Funding programme. These will continue to be conducted up to finalisation of the projects.
Monitoring and evaluation visits were conducted to the following projects:
The National School of Arts (NSA) located in Johannesburg, is a unique secondary school serving the advancement of creatively gifted learners from across South Africa. The NSA has been granted through to conduct research and document the history of the art school.

Raencho Project
The North West based project, Raencho focuses on Tswana writings which will be researched and consolidated into a publication that will celebrate the Tswana literature and their rich cultural heritage. The Project Manager, Ms. Skhosana was pleased to have received the second tranche and said that the team is progressing well and still within the timeframes set.
“We commit ourselves to support and empower our communities with funding to benefit from our heritage and create a sustainable heritage sector that contributes to the alleviation of unemployment in our country. At the same breath, we further commit to walk the journey with approved and funded stakeholders from the onset to completion of their projects so that we hold them accountable for funds discharged,” said Dr Thabo Manetsi, Chief Executive of the NHC.
