NHC ATTENDS THE 10TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GPDNET IN DOHA.
The National Heritage Council (NHC) Chairperson, Mr Tau Masemola together with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Thabo Manetsi, represented South Africa’s commitment to global cultural diplomacy by attending the 10th General Assembly of the Global Public Diplomacy Network (GPDNet) at Katara Cultural Village Foundation in Doha, Qatar, from February 25 to 27, 2025. His participation reinforced NHC’s mission to promote and preserve heritage while engaging in meaningful international dialogue on cultural exchange and diplomacy.
GPDNet was established in 2014 in Seoul as a platform aimed at contributing to the international community through cultural, academic and civil society initiatives, supporting and contributing to international cooperation.
The 10th General Assembly served as a meeting platform for esteemed representatives of GPDNet member institutions to reflect on past achievements while setting the course for the future of public diplomacy efforts worldwide. Since its establishment GPDNet has focused on fostering peace, prosperity, and mutual understanding across cultures. Through the collaboration of its members, the network has emerged as a leading force in international cooperation, bridging cultural divides and promoting global dialogue. Dr. Manetsi’s participation emphasized South Africa’s commitment to these shared objectives and highlighted the NHC’s role in advocating for the protection and promotion of cultural heritage on a global scale.
The GPDNet assembly stood as a landmark event, strengthening the network’s foundation and setting ambitious goals for the future. As delegates gathered in Doha, they shared their commitment to global public diplomacy, and heritage preservation was the driving force behind meaningful discussions and transformative initiatives.
