Heritage Funding Call season open
The National Heritage Council of South Africa (NHC), an agency of the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture has opened its 2020 call for funding of national heritage projects that promote and develop national heritage activities.
Support through funding of heritage projects is given priority to non-profit making organisations; individuals doing research on our heritage and partnered with qualifying organisations.
The Council has realised that the preservation and promotion of our country’s heritage relies on adequate funding for heritage practitioners. To bridge the gap of lack of funding, the NHC has one of the key mandates, the Council has a responsibility to disburse funds to approved heritage projects. Priority will further be given to projects that have a potential to create jobs while preserving our heritage in this difficult time of Covid19.
“For our heritage to remain relevant, accessible and contribute to the development of our country, it is imperative that funding is accessible to heritage practitioners. Funding is one of the central factors for successful empowerment, engagement and transformation of the previously marginalised heritage sector” says adv. Sonwabile Mancotywa Chief Executive of the NHC.
Due to Covid 19 precautionary measures and nationwide restrictions, this year’s engagement with Heritage practitioners will be strictly online, in order to avoid any further widespread of the Covid19 virus into our communities.
All relevant documents and forms can be downloaded from the NHC’s website: www.nhc.org.za or email firstname.lastname@example.org for further enquiries. The closing date for submission of proposals will be on 3 July 2020.
