NHC’s Call for Funding of Heritage Projects extended

The National Heritage Council of South Africa (NHC) has reopened the call for applications of heritage projects closing on Friday, 22 July 2022.

Earlier this year, the NHC issued a call which closed on 20 May 2022. The NHC  decided to extend the call to allow for more heritage activists an opportunity to apply and for the ones that have previously applied to further refine their proposals for resubmission.

Funding is afforded to individuals who are involved in heritage research project and have partnered with a qualifying entity or organisation, organizations educational institutions participating in heritage projects; Non-Profit Companies (NPCs); Community Based Organisations (CBOs); Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs); Associations; Foundations; Community Trusts (NB: family Trusts are excluded).

“We received quite an impressive response in our first call and were concerned when we received more interest and enquiries from the public on funding for heritage projects even after the closing date. Hence the entity reached a decision to extend a call for this important opportunity for the heritage sector,” says Dr Ndivhwu Lukhwareni NHC Chief Executive.

Priority will be given to proposals in the following focus areas: Education and Heritage, Liberation Heritage, Heritage Research & Publication Research projects in all sub-disciplines of heritage are welcomed; Indigenous Groups heritage initiatives in the country; Women and Heritage; Youth and Heritage.

“We would like to fund a variety of disciplines as possible. I urge the public to make use of our resources whilst they are in the process of compiling their proposals, by visiting our offices, mostly our website that has detailed information and criteria about our funding. Don’t leave it until the last minute, start working on your proposal now to avoid disappintments” adds Dr Lukhwareni.
