The National Heritage Council of South Africa (NHC) has partnered with SOMAFCO Trust on the national Indigenous Poetry Challenge as an intervention to unlock opportunities for the Arts, Culture and Heritage sector amid the global pandemic, COVID 19 that has affected many other sectors. The Indigenous Poetry Challenge intends to unleash South Africa’s poetic talent in any of the 11 official South African languages.
The competition entrants are required to be creative in their indigenous languages and record a poem that features either of the following themes:
- Preserving our National Heritage
- Beautiful places in South Africa
- Why I write Poetry?
- Enough is Enough! GBV
- The Best School
- COVID 19: A blessing or a Curse or
- General (Freestyle)
The poems can be uploaded on a special App that can be downloaded from http://www.keshoa.com
Somafco Trust has partnered with a music group – Black Motion, where the overall winner from Phase 1 of the challenge which ran from July to October 2020, will record a special music track with the music group.
Competition entrants for phase two stand a chance to win cash prizes worth R50 000 and a signed copy of the Black Motion’s latest album – The Healer. One winner per province will be selected in phase two which will run between 1 and 14 February 2021 – Enter and stand a chance to win!
