NHC call for acts of kindness proposals

The National Heritage Council of South Africa (NHC) calls on registered non-profit organisations (NPOs) involved in community upliftment initiatives that provide social and welfare services to vulnerable individuals, groups and communities, to submit proposals to become beneficiaries of the entity’s Ubuntu Programme.

The Ubuntu programme is one of NHC’s nation building initiatives which aims to uphold the legacy of former president and global icon, Nelson Mandela and to encourage citizens to emulate the values of Ubuntu by making a positive difference in their communities. The legacy programme provides basic needs of deep rural communities.

To apply, NPO’s need to submit a written proposal stating the following:

  • Name of the NPO or NPC, NPO number, province in which they are located and operating in and contact details;
  • The background of the NPO (stating what they do as an organisation)
  • A list of requirements of the NPO (what they need to be assisted with)
  • Information about the beneficiaries
  • The impact of the organisation’s donation in the community i.e. how the project going to curb the challenges they are faced with in their communities.

“Doing good and giving back to our communities by restoring their dignity should not be a one-day occurrence. We should strive to make ‘Mandela Day’ quotidian,” says the Chief Executive of the NHC, Adv. Sonwabile Mancotywa.

Interested organisations should submit their proposals along with a list of their beneficiaries’ needs as well as their NPO registration certificate to ubuntu@nhc.org.za. Proposals can be sent throughout the year as the NHC implements all year round.

The successful community organisation should be willing to sign a contract with the National Heritage Council to adhere to the entity’s requirements; complete and sign all the compulsory documents (SBD forms) and submit reports and invoices post-implementation.
