It’s sad for the National Heritage Council of South Africa (NHC) to learn of the passing of Rre Modiko Mothupi, a legend in the SABC’s African Language Radio Stations – Motsweding FM and a promoter and preserver of our traditional music.
A technical producer and presenter of one of South Africa’s biggest programme – Tsa Etsho Tsa Setswana left the heritage community and South Africa, with a legacy of pride in traditional music. His relationship and connection with the youth, attracted young listeners to his show that left such an indelible mark to the listenership. His traditional music show was nominated in the prestigious South African Traditional Music Achievements Awards (SATMAs). His selfless efforts also earned him a nomination to the SATMAs for traditional music presenter category.
“We have no doubt that Rre Mothupi has positively impacted on the youth to take forward the wonderful work of promoting our traditional music and taking pride in it for nation building and social diversity”, said Adv. Sonwabile Mancotywa, the Council’s Chief Executive.
May the gentle sunshine of memories be a light in this time of darkness for the Mothupi and SABC family as well as the South African fans.
