THE NHC SAD TO HEAR OF BOWING OUT OF THE LAST RIVONIA TRIALIST, SEAPARANKWE ANDREW MLANGENI

The National Heritage Council of South Africa (NHC) an agency of the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, is sad to hear of the massive loss of Seaparankwe Andrew Mlangeni, the anti-apartheid stalwart who was the last surviving member of the Rivonia Trialist, departed today this morning at 95.

Isithwalandwe Andrew Mlangeni spent over two decades on Robben Island after his conviction at the Rivonia Treason Trial in 1964. He was convicted with struggle stalwarts; Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Denis Goldberg, Govan Mbeki and many others. These are a generation of incredible dignity and unwavering steadfast commitment who fearlessly fought for the liberation of South Africans against the apartheid regime.

He was a humble, relentless fighter, straight talker that stood for what he believed in. His selflessness and sacrifices he made for the liberation of our country will be remembered.

“This is a generation that leaders and future leaders of our country should reflect on to carry this country forward. The NHC will ensure that Andrew Mlangeni’s legacy is preserved and promoted for the betterment of the republic of South Africa”. Their legacy should be known so that their values are embodied as we forever indebted to the sacrifices”, said Adv. Sonwabile Mancotywa, Chief Executive of the NHC.

The NHC sends heartfelt condolences to the Mlangeni family. Robala ka kgotso Seaparankwe!
