NHC TO COMMEMORATE CHARLOTTE MAXEKE THROUGH AN INTERGENERATIONAL DIALOGUE

The National Heritage Council (NHC), an agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) will host the Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Intergenerational dialogue as part of the commemoration of Women’s month and the 150 Years of Charlotte Maxeke.

The hybrid event will be hosted and streamed live on Wednesday, 18 August 2021 in Evaton at the Wilberforce Community College (formerly Wilberforce Institute of Training) which was founded by Charlotte Maxeke.

The dialogue will be hosted under the theme “Reaping the benefits of the efforts of Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke to create a better life for the all”. The Intergenerational dialogue will unite the different generations unraveling the revolutionary stories of this liberation struggle stalwart that are entrenched in deep cultural, traditional values, spirit of resilience, heroism and patriotism.

The dialogue will see a distinguished panel of speakers that will reflect on the life and legacy of Mme Mannya-Maxeke to address the social ills faced by South Africans today and unite the younger and older generation. Dr Noelette Nduna–Watson, Principal of Wilberforce Community College; Adv. Mojakunyane-Gumbi, Chancellor of the University of Venda; Mrs Nontsikelo Makaula, NYDA representative and Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa of the Moral Regeneration Movement will form part of the panellists.

Her legacy and values will be examined on how they can be espoused for nation building, social cohesion, national identity and also to address the social challenges encountered by South Africa.
